Ayar Labs, a leader in silicon photonics for chip-to-chip connectivity, has announced that co-founder and CTO Mark Wade will take over as its new CEO, replacing Charles Wuischpard who will step down in mid-January.
Wade is a pioneer in photonics technologies and led the team that designed the world’s first processor to communicate using light. He will lead the company’s next growth phase as it aims to enable large-scale AI compute and other data intensive workloads with its in-package optical I/O solution.
Wade’s appointment has been praised by the company’s investors, partners, and former CEO, who highlighted his deep understanding of Ayar Labs’ technology and its application.
Ayar Labs has secured strategic investments from NVIDIA, Hewlett Packard Pathfinder, Intel Capital and others, and has demonstrated its optical solution integrated with Intel’s Agilex® FPGA technology.
The company claims to offer 5x the current industry bandwidth at 5x lower power and 20x lower latency, while also supporting novel disaggregated compute and memory architectures.
