Buzzkill Labs raises Series A funding to develop saliva test for psychoactive THC

LIVERMORE, CA: Buzzkill Labs, a developer of a saliva test for psychoactive THC, today announced that it has raised an undisclosed amount in Series A funding. The round was led by Poseidon and existing investors.

Buzzkill also announced the appointment of Patrick Rea, Managing Director of Poseidon Garden Ventures, to its Board of Directors.

The company intends to use the funds to commercialize its technology, which fills employers’ critical need to maintain safe workplaces while respecting the dignity of employees who legally use cannabis outside of work.

Founded in 2018 and led by CEO Jeff Heimburger and CTO George Farquar, Ph.D., Buzzkill Labs has developed patented technologies for rapid, cost-effective detection of organic compounds. The proprietary technology performs on-site detection of psychoactive THC in saliva (oral fluid) samples in less than 15 minutes. The platform, initially deployed in workplace safety applications, enables employers with safety-sensitive roles to identify the use of cannabis during or immediately before work hours.

“We are excited to partner with Poseidon and our existing investors to bring our technology to market,” said Jeff Heimburger, CEO of Buzzkill Labs. “This funding will allow us to accelerate our development and commercialization efforts, and to help employers keep their workplaces safe while respecting the rights of their employees.”

“We are impressed with Buzzkill Labs’ technology and team,” said Patrick Rea, Managing Director of Poseidon Garden Ventures. “We believe that their solution has the potential to revolutionize the way employers screen for cannabis use, and we are excited to support their growth.”

Buzzkill Labs’ technology is based on a patented sensor that is able to detect THC in saliva with high sensitivity and specificity. The sensor is small, portable, and easy to use, making it ideal for on-site testing. The company’s platform is also scalable, making it possible to test large numbers of employees quickly and efficiently.

“We are committed to developing a solution that is both accurate and respectful of employees’ privacy,” said George Farquar, CTO of Buzzkill Labs. “Our technology is designed to meet the needs of employers while protecting the rights of employees.”

Buzzkill Labs’ technology is currently in the validation phase, and the company expects to launch its commercial product in the coming months.
